Born in Colleferro (Rome) on 8 September 1935.

After taking a degree in economics and business administration he began his career with a series of jobs in finance at different companies. After a period as controller at Olivetti, and finance director and controller at Alitalia, in 1989 he joined IRI as finance director and controller.

In January 1990 he joined Fininvest SpA as general manager and in 1996 was appointed chief executive with responsibility for the Group's finance and control functions and supervision of its activities in the large-scale retail, insurance and financial products sectors.

He is currently (substitute) deputy chairman of Mediolanum SpA, chairman of Mediolanum Assicurazioni SpA and Mediolanum Vita SpA.

He is a non-executive director of Mediaset SpA, of Gestevision Telecinco SA and Molmed SpA.
