MEDIASET LAUNCHES TWO NEW FREE DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL CHANNELS

Mediaset has launched two new free digital terrestrial channels for the platform directed by Miriam Pisani, already the deputy director of Canale Cinque and the first woman in Mediaset o hold a channel director's position.

An important challenge and a great opportunity for generalist TV audience who, with the decoder, can have access to two thematic channels, an option that until now has been restricted to pay-TV offers.

The first of the new channels, IRIS, well start up on Friday 30 November and will be mainly focused on cinema (with a library of more than 1000 titles), but also sit-coms, TV drama, documentaries and one evening a week dedicated to great Italian theatre and one to concerts of classical music and opera.

The second, BIS, which will launch in the first half of 2008, will focus on the history of commercial TV, with a chance to watch again many of the hit entertainment shows that have featured on Mediaset channels from the start, twenty-five years ago, to 2006.

With the first channel, film lovers will be able to watch, or watch again, also in primetime, those films that often, because of audience considerations, are not often shown on generalist channels, or not shown at all.

The schedule will range from the films of great directors of the past to those of the present day, Italian and foreign comedy and so-called B-movies, which will be shown in a critical context. The vast offer will be organised in cycles, often tied to anniversaries and bit cinema events and other elements that link to the present the cinema and its protagonists.

With these new free channels, Mediaset continues to develop its investment in digital terrestrial, begun in 2004 with Boing, the first free thematic channel for children and families. Auditel viewing figures, that since September 2007 measures the channel, immediately certified the channel's success: Boing is the most popular children's commercial channel and is in overall fourth place among the 110 channels available exclusively on the satellite and digital terrestrial platforms.
