MEDIATRADE: STATEMENT BY PIER SILVIO BERLUSCONI, DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF MEDIASET

MEDIATRADE
STATEMENT BY PIER SILVIO BERLUSCONI, DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF MEDIASET

Pier Silvio Berlusconi, deputy chairman of Mediaset: "I was extremely surprised, though entirely relaxed, to learn that my name had been included in the list of those under investigation with regard to the sale of film rights. Relaxed because I know how we operate, both me personally and Mediaset as a whole.
I know the attention that the company gives to controlling costs and the daily efforts made to give our best for our many shareholders.
And all of this can be seen in our financial statements. Consequently it is almost laughable that I should be involved in an investigation into inflated costs, hidden funds and fiscal irregularities.

Of course the investigation has only just been completed and it will be up to a judge to decide whether there are sufficient grounds for me to be tried. However I am absolutely confident that it will quickly emerge that neither me, my father nor  our chairman Fedele Confalonieri are in any way involved in these hideous accusations. For my part, this is something that has happened once before.
That does not, however, reduce the bitterness of once again seeing a desire to attack my father by whatever means. My impression is that, since yesterday, I too have been roped into this mechanism.
As a citizen and as a businessman I cannot accept such a system, but I want everyone to know that being caught up in this  mess does not frighten me at all, on the contrary, it only makes me feel closer to my father. In and for everything".
