context=| Tutta la televisione generalista italiana sarà trasmessa entro il 2012 in digitale terrestre. Il Gruppo Mediaset ha creduto, fin dal suo esordio nel 2003, nella nuova tecnologia, investendo circa 1,7 miliardi di euro per digitalizzare le frequenze e per l'acquisto dei contenuti. Grazie al digitale terrestre Mediaset ha arricchito l'offerta delle tre reti principali con i nuovi canali Iris, Boing (in partnership con Turner Broadcasting System Europe, Gruppo Time Warner) e Mediashopping. Il Gruppo, con la propria capacità di trasmissione, trasporta inoltre canali di editori terzi, propone un servizio che offre contenuti premium in modalità pay-per-view e ha avviato la trasmissione in tecnica DVB-H per la Mobile Tv.
Per il prossimo anno è prevista la progressiva migrazione della programmazione delle reti free - to - air prima al 16:9 e poi all'alta definizione per innalzare la qualità dell'immagine ed offrire un'esperienza televisiva sempre più coinvolgente ai telespettatori. In Sardegna RTI ha già iniziato le trasmissioni in alta definizione di Retequattro, che stanno riscuotendo grande successo. In particolare nell'ambito di un panel statistico di famiglie sarde, è emerso come, nella maggioranza dei casi, Retequattro HD abbia sostituito in quarta posizione nella lista canali la versione SD del medesimo canale.

Nel 2008 la diffusione della piattaforma digitale terrestre è proseguita a ritmi sostenuti. Secondo le rilevazioni condotte da GFK - Eurisko, nel periodo gennaio - dicembre 2008 sono stati venduti più di 5 milioni di ricevitori DTT, di cui circa 3,5 milioni di televisori integrati idTV, portando il numero totale di famiglie in possesso di un ricevitore digitale terrestre poco al di sotto dei 7,5 milioni. Il prezzo di acquisto dei decoder interattivi più economici si è mantenuto intorno ai 70 Euro, con il 90% dei decoder presenti nelle case degli italiani conforme allo standard di interattività DVB MHP ed dotato di smart card reader per la ricezione dei servizi pay TV, fra cui Mediaset Premium.
Diversi fattori hanno contribuito a promuovere la diffusione della televisione digitale terrestre, fra cui gli investimenti degli operatori finalizzati all'arricchimento dell'offerta televisiva free e pay e l'aumento della copertura e dei multiplex esistenti. D'altra parte, sia lo switch - off in Sardegna che lo spegnimento delle trasmissioni in analogico di Rai Due e Retequattro in Valle d'Aosta hanno dato forte impulso al consumo televisivo digitale. Infine la crescente diffusione dei televisori con tuner DTT integrato sta a sua volta contribuendo in modo sostanziale alla penetrazione della piattaforma digitale terrestre. La crescente diffusione degli idTV sarà uno dei principali driver di sviluppo del digitale terrestre nei prossimi anni. In particolare l'obbligo, secondo la normativa vigente, per tutti i televisori venduti da Aprile 2009 di avere un tuner DTT, porterà ad un naturale adeguamento delle dotazioni tecnologiche presenti nelle case degli italiani, in previsione dello switch - off del 2012.
Secondo quanto disposto dal calendario governativo di switch - off, entro la fine del prossimo anno le famiglie italiane digitali terrestri saranno più del 30%. Infatti nel 2009 è prevista la conversione al digitale di diverse regioni fra cui il Piemonte Occidentale (entro settembre 2009), il Lazio e la Campania (entro fine 2009); un passo cruciale verso la completa digitalizzazione delle trasmissioni terrestri fissata per la fine del 2012.

Nel corso del 2008, R.T.I., anche attraverso la partecipazione al DGTVi , ha dimostrato il suo sostegno attivo al processo di migrazione dalla TV analogica a quella digitale, impegnandosi in prima linea a favore di una rapida ed efficiente transizione nell'interesse del paese.
Il DGTVi ha confermato il suo ruolo guida nell'ambito della promozione e diffusione della tecnologia digitale terrestre in Italia. L'associazione che raggruppa tutti i broadcaster free-to-air nazionali, compresa R.T.I., oltre alle federazioni delle televisioni locali, ha rinnovato i suoi impegni nell'affermazione di standard aperti ed interoperabili per ricevitori e decoder digitali terrestri, nonché nella promozione e nel supporto del processo di switch - off.

I bollini hanno un ruolo essenziale nel guidare il consumatore ad identificare con facilità i ricevitori abilitati alla corretta ricezione del digitale terrestre; inoltre hanno consentito lo sviluppo di una piattaforma digitale terrestre interoperabile ed aperta a beneficio di tutti gli attori del settore.
Nel 2008 gli interventi di comunicazione del DGTVi si sono concentrati soprattutto sulla Sardegna, che a dicembre ha completato il processo di switch - off diventando la prima regione italiana "all digital": distribuzione di 200.000 leaflet informativi presso la regione, diffusione di materiale POP di trade - marketing (ad es. totem, cavalierini, opuscoli) presso i principali punti vendita di elettronica ed elettrodomestici e realizzazione di una campagna ad hoc per il progetto "bollini" veicolata tramite le riviste specializzate per il trade.
Infine nel 2008 R.T.I., insieme a Rai e Telecom Italia Media, ha fondato Tivù s.r.l, con lo scopo di promuovere e comunicare il Digitale Terrestre attraverso un marchio ombrello Tivù, brand su cui si concentreranno i principali sforzi di comunicazione dell'azienda. Tivù ha anche in programma il lancio di un servizio televisivo satellitare gratuito, con lo scopo di assicurare la stessa offerta di intrattenimento televisivo presente sul DTT anche nelle aree non raggiunte dal segnale digitale terrestre.

I numerosi operatori del settore che hanno continuato ad investire nello sviluppo della piattaforma digitale terrestre stanno fortemente contribuendo alla crescita delle infrastrutture DTT in Italia. A fine 2008 sono 10 i multiplex digitali terrestri operativi sul territorio nazionale (due trasmettono esclusivamente in tecnologia DVB-H) a cui si sommano più di 180 multiplex a copertura locale o regionale.
R.T.I., attraverso Elettronica Industriale, ha realizzato importanti investimenti nello sviluppo della copertura dei suoi multiplex: Mediaset 1 che oggi si conferma all'82% della popolazione e Mediaset 2 che copre oggi il 75% della popolazione. Mentre il multiplex dedicato alla trasmissione in tecnica DVB-H raggiunge oggi oltre il 70% della popolazione.
Per quanto attiene l'offerta di canali, ad oggi sul digitale terrestre sono presenti 28 canali televisivi in chiaro con copertura nazionale, di cui 20 sono canali aggiuntivi rispetto all'offerta in analogico. Il numero di canali DTT è destinato ad aumentare nei prossimi anni, anche in virtù dell'obbligo regolatorio di cessione ad editori terzi del 40% della capacità di trasmissione dei MUX di Mediaset, RAI e Telecom Italia Media. R.T.I. trasporterà sulle proprie reti 6 canali di editori terzi. In particolare sul multiplex Mediaset 1 sono ospitati i canali Alphabet, Class News e Coming Soon, mentre sul multiplex Mediaset 2, trovano spazio Disney Channel, Playhouse Disney e Cartoon Network.

Tutta l'offerta televisiva di R.T.I sul DTT (sia free - to - air che pay) si avvale dell'interattività come strumento per fornire servizi innovativi agli spettatori, capaci di rendere più coinvolgente la visione della programmazione televisiva.
I portali Canale 5 Plus, Italia 1 Plus e Retequattro Plus, trasmessi sulle tre reti generaliste del digitale terrestre, sono fin dal 2003 i contenitori dell'offerta di servizi interattivi ai telespettatori; questi arricchiscono i più importanti programmi televisivi e offrono servizi "always on" di informazione (ultime notizie, informazione sportiva, informazione metereologica e così via).
Anche l'offerta Mediaset Premium, fin dalla sua nascita, è stata arricchita con contenuti interattivi. In particolare, nel corso del 2008, sono stati introdotti nuovi strumenti di guida elettronica dei programmi per soddisfare le esigenze di "orientamento all'offerta a pagamento" a beneficio dei telespettatori.
Nel 2008 l'offerta complessiva di contenuti e servizi interattivi è stata di più di 75 applicazioni interattive accessibili durante la messa in onda del programma televisivo di riferimento, oppure dai portali di rete Canale 5 Plus, Italia 1 Plus e Rete 4 Plus. Inoltre sono stati sviluppati servizi interattivi specifici per le aree "all digital" ed in particolare per la Sardegna che, a partire dal 1° novembre, data di completo spegnimento del segnale analogico, è diventata la prima regione italiana "tutta digitale".
R.T.I. è attualmente considerato il primo broadcaster commerciale in Europa per qualità e quantità dell'offerta di televisione interattiva.

  • Amici di Maria De Filippi: nella versione interattiva offre la possibilità di news sempre aggiornate e curiosità esclusive dalla scuola più famosa d'Italia

  • Grande Fratello: nelle due versioni per Mediaset premium e per Canale 5 Plus permette di fruire gli accadimenti della casa in diretta 24 ore su 24 da tre diverse regie controllabili dal telespettatore; inoltre, su Canale 5 Plus, sono disponibili anche approfondimenti aggiornati quotidianamente su quanto succede nella casa del Grande fratello (interviste ai VIP, rubriche e indagini sugli ex inquilini delle edizioni precedenti)

  • Italia 1 Teen: lo spazio dedicato ai "teenager" con news, "gossip", curiosità sul mondo della musica e la possibilità di inviare SMS presentati in una sezione dell'applicazione interattiva

  • Cinema 5, Cinema 1 e Cinema 4: applicazioni interattive rispettivamente su Canale 5, Italia 1 e Rete 4, offrono informazioni sui film trasmessi in prima e seconda serata; la trama, la scheda e le curiosità sul film in programmazione e anticipazioni sui titoli in onda prossimamente. Attraverso l'applicazione è possibile selezionare l'audio in lingua originale

  •  Serie Tv e Portale fiction: offrono informazioni sulla trama, i personaggi e l'audio in lingua originale dei maggiori prodotti seriali di autoproduzione e di acquisto
]]> false Anche sul fronte pubblicitario ed in particolare su quello della pubblicità interattiva, R.T.I. si è dimostrata all'avanguardia per quantità e qualità degli investitori pubblicitari che hanno dimostrato interesse verso questa nuova forma di contatto interattivo. Il 15% delle applicazioni trasmesse sono state di pubblicità interattiva, proposte prevalentemente nella forma di Tvsite,
ovvero di spazi navigabili dai telespettatori in modalità interattiva e dedicati esclusivamente agli investitori: informazioni e approfondimenti, immagini e video aggiuntivi, advergame e quiz, offerte promozionali e t-commerce. Sono strumenti in grado di estendere i contenuti di comunicazione a favore della brand experience, di offrire cioè un ampio approfondimento informativo sul brand o sui prodotti, ma anche di intrattenere e di costruire una relazione immediata con il telespettatore a favore di un contatto diretto sia in termini di comunicazione che in termini commerciali.
Per il prossimo anno R.T.I. si pone l'obiettivo di continuare ad arricchire l'offerta editoriale interattiva, rendendola ancora più coinvolgente, anche nell'ottica di offrire agli investitori pubblicitari nuove e potenti forme di contatto con i loro potenziali clienti.

Mobile TV
La TV via mobile, è un'ulteriore piattaforma per la diffusione dei contenuti televisivi, in un contesto mediale che richiede l'accessibilità alla TV sempre e dovunque.
Anche in questo caso, l'Italia in generale, e RTI in particolare, è all'avanguardia di un settore che riscontra elevato interesse, permettendo di complementare la TV tradizionale, tramite la ricezione in movimento, nel tempo libero, prima e dopo il lavoro.
RTI ha adottato la tecnologia DVB-H per supportare l'offerta TV via mobile. Rispetto alle tecnologie di comunicazione mobile 3G ovvero UMTS, la tecnologia DVB-H è ottimale per trasmettere contenuti video di flusso in modalità broadcast, con qualità elevata e costi relativamente bassi per l'utente, indipendentemente dal numero di utenti contemporanei e dalla presenza di un canale di ritorno.
RTI ha operato in tale settore offrendo, sulla base degli accordi pluriennali esistenti, capacità trasmissiva e contenuti ai
principali operatori di telecomunicazioni nazionali (H3G, Vodafone e TIM).

In 2008, digital terrestrial television continued with its expansion plan at a high pace. Research conducted by GFK - Eurisko revealed that in the January - December 2008 time span more than 5 million DTT decoders were sold, of which approximately 3.5 million were idTV integrated, increasing the total number of houselholds with a digital terrestrial decoder to slightly below 7.5 million. Retail prices of the cheapest interactive decoders remained steady at EUR 70 and 90% of the decoders purchased by Italian households support the DVB MHP 1.0.2 interactive standard and are equipped with smart card reader for the reception of pay services, including Mediaset Premium.
A range of factors have contributed to confirming the success of digital terrestrial television, including the expansion of the free and pay offer made by operators as well as the increased coverage of the existing multiplexes. In fact, both the total switch - off in the Sardinia region and the switching off of Raidue and Retequatttro analogue broadcasting in the Valle d'Aosta strongly contributed to the growth of digital terrestrial television. Moreover, the increased sales of television sets with built - in DTT tuners are also substantially upping the penetration of the digital terrestrial television. And the increased popularity of idTVs will become one of the major development drivers for DTT technology in the upcoming years. In particular, as mandated by law, all television sets sold starting from April 2009 will have built-in DTT tuners. In 2008, R.T.I., also through its membership in DGTVI, confirmed its active support for the process of migration from analogue television to digital television, taking the lead in favour of a swift and effective transition in the interest of the entire country.
DGTVI maintained its leadership role in the promotion and distribution of the digital terrestrial technology in Italia. The association that groups all Italian national free-to-air broadcasters, R.T.I. included, as well as local television federations, renewed its commitment for the definition of open and interoperating standards for digital terrestrial receivers and decoders and the promotion and support of the switch-off process.

These stickers play a fundamental role in assisting consumers in the identification of decoders and receivers suitable for the reception of the digital terrestrial signal. In addition, they facilitated the development of an open and interoperating digital terrestrial platform for the benefit of all opearators involved.
In 2008, DGTVi communication activities were mainly concentrated in the Sardinia region, which completed the switch - off process last December, becoming Italy's first all-digital region. The activities included the distribution of 200,000 informative leaflets, distribution of trademarketing POP materials (totems, tabs, leaflets) at the main electronics and household appliance retail stores and the development of an ad hoc campaign centered on the "stickers" initiative, channeled through trade and sector-specific magazines.

The combined efforts of the many operators in the sector who have continued to invest in the development of the digital terrestrial platform are currently making a remarkable contribution to the upgrading and strengthening of Italian DTT infrastructures. At the end of 2008, there were 10 digital terrestrial multiplexes operating in the country (two exclusively dedicated to DVB-H technology) and 180 multiplexes with local or regional coverage.
Through Elettronica Industriale, R.T.I. has made concerted efforts to extend coverage of the Mediaset 1 multiplex, which currently reaches 82% of the population and the Mediaset 2 multiplex, which currently reaches 75% of the population. The new multiplex dedicated to the broadcast of DVB-H standard content currently covers more than 70% of the population.
The range of channels currently on offer includes 28 channels available in free digital terrestrial mode with national coverage, of which 20 are new channels created for the digital platform compared to the analogue offering. This interactive application proved particularly successful, reaching the highest ratings of appreciation and use among all the existing interactive applications. In the two spring and fall editions, more than 140,000 registrations were submitted to participate in the prize contest.

  • Interactive Controcampo: this application includes news concerning the results and comments on the football matches of the "Serie A" League of the same Sunday.

  • UEFA Champions' League: broadcast on Mediaset premium concurrently with the football matches, this interactive application offers not only real time updates and statistics, but also information and curiosities on the football clubs involved in the same matches.

  • Amici di Maria De Filippi: the interactive version of this programme provides the possibility of receiving constantly updated news and exclusive curiosities on Italy's most famous school.

  • Grande Fratello: in the two versions for Mediaset Premium and Canale 5 Plus, this application provides round the clock viewing of what happens in the house with three different videocameras directly controlled by viewers. Moreover, Canale 5 Plus also offers detailed information - updated on a daily basis - on what happens in the "Grande Fratello" house (interviews with VIPs, columns and curiosities about participants in past editions).

  • Serie Tv and Portale fiction: these offer information on the plot, characters and original language sound track of the main self - produced and acquired series.
]]> false Also in relation to advertising sales and, in particular, interactive advertising sales, R.T.I. proved to be in the forefront both in terms of quantity and quality of advertisers, which have shown interest in this new form of interactive contact. 15% of the applications broadcast referred to interactive advertising, mainly proposed in the form of TV - site, that is, as a space that can be accessed by interactive surfers and exclusively dedicated to consumers: information and detailed analyses, images and videos, advergames and quiz shows, promotions and t - commerce. These tools permit the expansion of communication content in favour of the brand experience, providing viewers with the possibility of getting to know brands and products in depth, by also establishing and developing an immediate relation with them, capturing viewers directly both in terms of communication and commercial purposes.
For next year, R.T.I.'s objective is to continue the expansion of the interactive offering, making it increasingly attractive also in view of providing advertisers with new and powerful contact tools to attract potential customers.

Mobile TV represents an additional platform for the diffusion of television content in the context of continuing innovation in the media world, which increasingly requests TV access at any time and anywhere.
Here, as in other areas of the ICT world, Italy in general, and RTI, specifically, are in the forefront in a sector that is eliciting great interest, showing that Mobile TV tends to complement traditional television in terms of the way in which it is consumed (on the move, during leisure time, before of after work).
RTI has adopted the DVB-H technology to support Mobile TV. Unlike the other mobile communication technologies - 3G or UMTS -, the DVB-H technology is perfectly suitable for transmitting high-quality broadcast based video content at a reasonable price for the user, regardless of the number of simultaneous users and availability of a return channel.
Thanks to long-term agreements, RTI has strongly focused on this sector in order to offer broadcasting capacity and contents to Italy's leading mobile phone operators (H3G, Vodafone and TIM).
