Luigi Fausti
Born in Ancona in 1929.
He studied classics at the Liceo C. Tacito in Terni and law at the University of Rome.
He was hired in a clerical role at the Banca Commerciale Italiana in 1947 and spent 51 of uninterrupted service at various levels at various offices of the bank around Italy.
In 1984 he moved to the bank's head office, in the Credit Services (Italy) Department, initially as co-director and, from 1987, as central director with a supervisory role for the service itself. In May 1990 he was appointed chief executive. In April 1994 he was appointed deputy chairman and chief executive.
In June1996 he was awarded a laurea honoris causa in economics by the Seconda University of Naples. In April 1997 he was nominated chairman and in 1999, by acclamation, honorary chairman, a position from which he resigned in June of the same year due to disagreements on the bank's strategic direction.
